A deck that’s too small can feel twitchy. Too big and it can feel heavy or slow to flip. Good skateboard decks are built with quality maple, strong glue bonds, and consistent shapes — so they last longer and skate better, session after session.

All decks are standard 7-ply maple unless stated otherwise, giving you a solid mix of pop, strength, and durability.

Skateboard Deck Size & Shape Guide

Choosing a skateboard deck mostly comes down to width and shape. There’s no “right” answer — it’s about what feels good under your feet.

Deck Width (Most Important Part)

Deck width is measured in inches and affects stability, control, and how easy the board is to flip.

7.75” – 8.0”

• Best for smaller riders or technical street skating

• Lighter and quicker to flip

• Less stable at speed

8.0” – 8.25”

• The most popular all-round sizes

• Great balance of control, pop, and stability

• Perfect for street and park skating

8.25” – 8.5”

• Ideal for parks, bowls, and transition skating

• More foot room and stability

• Slightly heavier but more controlled

8.5” and above

• Best for big transition, bowls, and cruising

• Maximum stability and comfort

• Not ideal for very technical flip tricks

Deck Shape (What Changes How It Feels)

Most modern skateboard decks are popsicle shapes, but small differences matter.

Standard Popsicle

• Even nose and tail

• Works for all styles

• Best choice if you’re unsure

Steeper or Mellow Concave

• Steeper concave = more control and grip

• Mellow concave = more comfort and stability

Longer Nose / Shorter Tail

• Better control for ledges and foot placement

• Popular with street skaters

Simple Deck Buying Tip

If you’re unsure where to start:

• Go for an 8.0”–8.25” deck - 8" recommended for a young beginner, if you're larger or with feet over about size 6 we'd recommend going a little larger. Size 6 - 9 feet got for an 8.25", 9 - 10 feet go for an 8.5", bigger feet than that we'd recommend going a little bigger still.  This really is a rough guide and if you're still unsure or want more advice just give us a call on 01843 295572 an we'll be happy to help.
